WELCOME TO STORYJOHN!

STORYTELLER JOHN EDGAR'S HOME PAGE

"John was an inspiration and captivated all our children with his vivid imagination and exciting approach to both telling and planning stories. Two very enjoyable days that stimulated some wonderful work on designing and creating  characters."

I'm a writer and storyteller living in Wolverhampton in the UK.  I work a lot in education and the wider community, and have also written for theatre and BBC Radio.  I used to be an actor, but the arrival of two children changed all that.

At the moment, this site is about several things:

You can read about the work I do in schools. This is the information sheet I send out.

I've put out a collection of my schools stories,  Telling Tales in both book and CD formats.  Read all about it and listen to one of the tales.

If you want to find out about William Shakespeare's life and times, I’ve pasted up pages from the teacher’s pack which accompanies my secondary schools show , The Player’s Tale. You can also download the entire pack in PDF format from this page.

You’ll also find a few folk stories from Brittany, my favourite place, for those who fancy a spooky and eccentric read.  This is part of a project I’m currently working on.

**Also find out more about my storytelling show, Breton Tales After Dark. Plus the seasonal show Breton Christmas Spirits and  Curses, Corpses and Conjurations. There's also a "Breton Tales After Dark" CD available, plus the new one, The Hanged Man and Other BretonTales.

The Storyjohn resources site - my new .Mac site with lots of films, images, audio files etc.  Home of the Storyjohn Podcast.  Find out more here.

The Ballad of Joseph Darby.  My retelling of the true story of a legendary local athlete of the 19th century, arguably the greatest jumper the world has ever known.  Also the subject of my second radio play.

There's also a page about the Beechdale Storytelling Project, a Walsall-based creative writing initiative for older writers that I taught on.  You can link from this page to a selection of stories from group members.

I've also been doing some archive and reminiscence work with older people in local day centres.

There's a page about my cabaret work.

The guitar players among you can read about my “trainspotter’s” collection of left-handed guitars.  There are also a number of visiting guitar pages made up of pictures sent in by other left-handed guitar players.

And you can find out about my CD, Just a Few Things , a fundraiser for a local hospice.  There are also 3 MP3 extracts available to listen to.

Check out the Palers Project tribute to Procol Harum, From Shadow to Shadow.  Visit their website and find out more about this and other Palers' activities.

For those into all things esoteric and mystical, you could do far worse than visit the Mystical World Wide Web, a huge, well-established site radiating out of Glastonbury.  This site contains a wealth of folklore, healing and other information on this world and beyond ...

Sadly, In Other Words Bookshop, Mutley Plain, Plymouth, ceased trading as a bookshop on Friday 11th May.  But they're now in business as an ordering service.  If it's out there they can get it, I reckon.  Click on the kiwi to find out more.
